Interview #2

1.What pedal you take for a mission to Mars?

Oh it would have to be the Strymon -NightSky Time-Warped Reverberator. Pure, Space, Goodness

2.What album you take for a neverending moon travel?

Within the Post Rock Genre? It’s gotta be (Moons Eat Stars - Exile) An Absolute masterpiece and I mean…. Look at the band name..

In another genre probably Clint Mansell - The Fountain (Soundtrack) or Max Richter - The Blue Notebooks

3.What are your conditions, your habits or your inspiration when composing a new track?

Conditions? I’m not sure…

I do tend to have the (habit) of wanting to keep a song as in tact as possible from it’s early beginnings to the finalization of the song/album but, that’s only because I write all the music so, It is  hard to let go of your creation and give it to someone else to improve upon/bring to life. Luckily I’ve been surrounded by some incredible musicians who have the ‘ear’ for what works and what doesn’t. Usually for me, it’s with the song structure more than anything else.

As for inspiration… I am inspired by a lot of things. Usually from a music standpoint I tend to get unknowingly inspired by bands/artists/songwriters outside of the Post Rock/Post Metal Bubble. Some of My favorites being King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Bon Iver, Arctic Monkeys, Tori Amos, St Vincent, Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle, The Messthetics, Katatonia, Opeth, Neurosis, Nevermore, Pain of Salvation, 2814, BADBADNOTGOOD, Portishead, The Smiths etc….

My music sounds nothing like those bands/artists/songwriters but, they do help me with creativity. My writers block that I have to deal with sometimes is beyond scary.

Inside the Post Rock Genre I’d have to say I am inspired by

(Phil Jamieson (Caspian), Torsten Kinsella (God is An Astronaut), Stuart Braithwaite (Mogwai), Taka Goto (MONO), Maciej Karbowski (Tides From Nebula), Michael Socrates (If These Trees Could Talk), Xie Yugang (Wang Wen), Mike Sullivan (Russian Circles) etc…

4.Do you have any information to give us concerning a new album or a new track?

Yes.. My new album (A Hollow World) will be released by the end of the year. There have been many setbacks but, such is life. What I will say is this record in particular is not only do I think it’s a strong album and I’m proud of it as always… but, also the fact that I have three incredible musicians involved.

Mircea Becherescu (Am Fost La Munte Si Mi-a Placut/Dog Is My Copilot) who will be doing Bass, keys and any additional ambience on the album as well as mixing the record.

Torsten Kinsella (God is An Astronaut) who is playing rhythm guitars on the opening track of the record but, also mastering it too.

And

Chad Rush (Long Hallways) who will be Playing Drums/Percussion on the album.

5.Which artist would you like to work with? (musician, illustrator, movie director or composer)

Well a big one for me was Torsten but, since he is involved on the new album I guess that is the same thing! I’d love to work with him in person too though..

Otherwise for musician I’d have to choose Justin Vernon (Bon Iver)

6.For which film would you have liked to make a sound track?

I feel like all the movies I’ve seen and loved, already have the most perfect soundtrack. You cannot do better than something that is already a masterpiece. The movie I want to write for hasn’t been made yet…

Links Insta Linktree Bandcamp Interview #18 1) What pedal or instrument you take for a mission to Mars?   It is very interesting question because I'm always thinking about planets, galaxies and generally astronomy issues. For such kind of mission I need just my violin! Because I have started playing music with violin and I can go every where with that! I was a classical violinist and I had  lots of enjoyable memories in different philharmonic and symphonic orchestras, but classical music was not the voice of my soul. I love post-rock music so,  I decided to change my music path into what I think fits better to my interests. I learned to play different instruments of this genre and I owe violin in this regard! It helped me a lot. So, having violin is enough for me to go to the end of the infinite universe! What a paradoxical statement! Hahaha 2) What album you take for a neverending moon travel? Albums have different tracks. Some of these tracks could be better...

This question is actually very relevant to me right now, because I've just moved to Dubai for 6 months, and sometimes it feels like Mars, especially with the desert landscape! I could only take one of my five guitars with me, so I actually had to make this choice!  Between guitars and basses, I chose a guitar because I'm still learning guitar and I thought it would keep me more entertained as I continue to learn and take lessons. Between my guitars, I chose my Gibson SG because I can change the tuning on it lol. I love my new Jericho, but it has an evertune bridge so I can't really change tuning between standard, drop D, and drop C, and sometimes I want to switch between the tunings for my guitar lessons, covers I'm working on, or my own songs. Spoiler alert tho- I couldn't live without my basses apparently and I bought one here for $100 like 2 weeks afte...

Anyway, I’d take my guitar of course, a Reverend double agent. It fits my needs and does the trick. Plus, I love to watch it, electric guitars are definitely the most beautiful instruments around, lol. Let me pack the Earthquaker Devices Avalanche Run Reverb&Delay as well. It’s been with me all along. It’s both an experimental device and does classic stuff too. 2.    What album do you take for a neverending moon travel? I love to listen through albums. It's a mindfull thing to do, taking the time to listen, to enjoy the artwork, the liner notes. I’d love to release a physical album in the future. ‘Lost in the dream’ from The War on Drugs is very dear to me. I’ve literally listened hundreds and hundreds of hours to this particular record. It’s a feel-good al...
